Fort Wayne, Ind. (WANE) – A house on Rudisill Boulevard was damaged Friday morning, but no one was injured after officials suspected the fire was electrical.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department has been called to 518 E. Rudisill Blvd. At around 5:25 am, they arrived within a minute of the call and found heavy smoke in the attic of the house.
Firefighters notified WANE 15 that a woman and her two children could be safely evacuated before the firefighters got there. The woman’s husband was at work at the time.
Firefighters launched an aggressive indoor attack while others used a saw to cut the roof for ventilation and access to hot spots. A press release said the fire was found on several walls on the second floor. It was declared under control at 6:03 a.m.
Speaking to WANE 15 on Friday, a chief of the FWFD battalion praised the department’s quick response time and noted that Fire Station 11 is just a few doors down from 518 E. Rudisill Blvd.
He said the fire was electrical in nature and likely originated in the attic of the house. However, an official cause is expected to be determined later by an arson investigator.
Firefighters said the crews could also salvage some valuable items for the family.
Rudisill Boulevard will remain completely closed in both directions. The crews will be on site for several hours and overtake. FWFD was supported by the Fort Wayne Police Department, NCE, American Electric Power, NIPSCO, TRAA, and the Red Cross.
