Warning after handgun found hidden in mattress in Nottingham
Police issued a warning after a handgun was found in a mattress during a police search.
Officials executed an arrest warrant at an address on Hucknall Road, Carrington, shortly after 4:30 p.m. yesterday (Thursday) in response to community intelligence.
After a thorough search of the property, they found the gun hidden in a mattress.
The investigation continues and the weapon has been removed for further investigation. Drugs and cell phones were also seized from the property.
Two men, aged 31 and 33, were arrested on suspicion of firearms offenses and remain in police custody.
Nottinghamshire Police Department Detective Sergeant Nigel Malik said: “Fortunately, gun crimes are rare but are treated with the utmost seriousness by the Nottinghamshire Police Department. So we are taking a very proactive approach to removing illegal weapons from our streets.
“If we receive information that firearms or illegal weapons are being stored in a location, we will take immediate action to ensure that they are confiscated and that suspects are investigated.
“So if you are in possession of an illegal firearm, it is not unlikely that we will find out about it and pay you an unexpected visit.
“I also urge anyone who is aware of someone who may be in possession of an illegal firearm to call the Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or 999 in an emergency. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. “
