Veteran owned junk removal business provides job with military values
FORT WAYNE, IND. (WANE) – Fire Dawgs Junk Removal, a veteran and firefighter owned company based in Indianapolis, IN, opened in Fort Wayne, IN earlier this year.
Rob Merz, a veteran of the Indiana Air National Guard, served for nine years both locally in the 122nd Fighter Wing and overseas in the Middle East. He now heads the Fire Dawgs Junk Removal office in Fort Wayne.
“We are a garbage disposal service, obviously in the name. But we do a lot more. To move. Remove the hot tub. Expansion of the swing. Tear off scales. If you have a house, we can clean the attic down to the basement, ”said Rob Merz, manager of Fire Dawgs Junk Removal.
Merz said that the garbage disposal company’s values correspond to those of the armed forces.
“Giving back and serving yourself. Treat each customer the way your family should be treated. It is deeply anchored in this company, ”said Merz. He added, “Here I am giving back to the community in a kind of junk way. I mean it’s not as serious as giving your life, but it’s definitely the feeling of bondage and trying to help people and that’s a huge feeling to me. “
The company prides itself on doing the job, big or small, to serve customers with the same ideals of veterans that have served our country.
“We’re doing this because we really want to help someone. We don’t do it for the medals or the feats. I am nowhere near a hero. No, not even close. I wouldn’t even fit myself into this category, ”said Merz.
In addition to his work at Fire Dawgs Junk Removal, Merz is a full-time firefighter with the Grissom Fire Department. The term “Fire Dawn” is intended for military firefighters like Merz.
Merz said his post-service success is based on the core values he learned in active service.
He added that he believes that all veterans can find their own success too.
“Just keep grinding. Discipline equals freedom. If you are disciplined, you can do pretty much anything you want, ”said Merz.
