Trash hauling company worker hit by car, hospitalized in Clay

Clay, NY – A garbage collector was rushed to the hospital this morning after being hit by a car while working in Clay town.

State Police said Christopher B. Riese, an employee of Butler Disposal Systems, was picking up trash on Caughdenoy Road around 8:05 a.m. when he was beaten.

The garbage truck stopped in the north lane on Caughdenoy Road. Giant got out of the truck and headed into the south lane to collect rubbish from 9381 Caughdenoy Road.

The driver of the other vehicle, identified by police as Stuart D. Gallagher, 46, from Central Square, drove south and was unable to stop or evade Riese. The state police believe that Riese did not see the Gallagher’s vehicle and went on the path of the oncoming car.

Giant was taken to Upstate University Hospital; The state police described his injuries as not life threatening.
