Tractor-trailer hauling trash catches fire on I-94 in St. Clair County | News
A trailer truck carrying rubbish from Canada caught fire on Interstate 94 heading west into Kimball Township in early March 4.
A 31-year-old man from Brampton, Ontario, Canada was driving I-94 east of Ravenswood Road around 4 a.m., St. Clair County’s Sheriff Mat King said in a recent press release. The man told MPs he heard a tire burst and slowed down. As he started to pull away from the road, he heard another bang.
When he stopped, he got out of the truck and saw flames from the right side of the trailer. He could unhook the truck from the trailer and pull it forward at a safe distance.
The Marysville Police Department and fire departments from the townships of Kimball, Port Huron and Clyde helped.
I-94 to the west was closed until about 8 a.m. from Range Road to Gratiot Road.
The driver of the truck was not injured. At this point it is not known what caused the fire.
