Springfield schedules mattress recycling event for residents

SPRINGFIELD, MO. – The City of Springfield hosted a mattress recycling event where residents could drop off at least two of their unwanted mattresses for free on Saturday May 15.

The event takes place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Springfield Recycling Center, 404 N. Jefferson Ave.

Up to two mattresses or one mattress and a box spring bed can be handed in free of charge.

Typically it costs $ 15 to drop off a mattress, but the Clean Green Springfield Initiative is paying for the event.

Ashley Krug from Environmental Services explains why mattress recycling is important.

“Mattresses, for example, do not condense in the landfill, they take up a lot of space and can even damage equipment,” said Krug. “If we can dispose of these through recycling instead, we can protect the land and make sure we protect our environment.”
