However, novice decorators always run the risk of splattering paint on the carpet. Cue hours of relentless scrubbing for little paint removal effect. Gah!

Kaytee Haas shared her incredible cleaning hack with TikTok, explaining how she accidentally spilled some paint on her carpet while renovating her home.
“It literally happened to me in our brand new house,” she explained. “I’ve got paint on the floor and I thought we had to throw the whole house away!”
Haas is so confident the hack is effective that she bravely got her husband to pour more paint on the carpet to showcase it on the video sharing platform.
She recommends TikTokern save the trick in case they need it as you need to act quickly as the paint is easier to remove before drying.

“My husband came up with this whole idea, and if you don’t have a carpet cleaner this is for you,” wrote Haas.
“All you need is hot water.”
The couple first scrape off excess paint from the carpet with a wall scraper and drop it onto a plastic cover so they can toss it in the trash can.
Then her husband quickly pours some hot water on the color marking and vigorously sucks it out of the carpet.
The process is repeated continuously until the stain seems to have completely disappeared.
The video was viewed more than 885,000 times, with people saying thank you for saving their carpets.
The story goes on
“That confidence if you just throw some paint on your carpet,” commented one impressed viewer.
“I had a whole panic attack when I saw paint fall on the floor. Then slowly trust yourself, ”wrote another.
“Love it! The key to cleaning paint is never letting it dry,” agreed another TikToker.
Observe: Vacuum Hack will help you get into hard to reach areas.
Haas later added another tip to the comments, urging those who tried the hack to make sure they remove their vacuum filter to prevent it from clogging.
According to Samantha Jones, spokeswoman for the merchant sourcing website MyJobQuote, this hack is perfect for combating accidental paint spills with one caveat: it depends on what type of paint was spilled.
This hack works best with water-based paint.
“If you’ve used oil paint, scrape it off the carpet immediately with a spatula,” advises Jones.
“This way you can lift the paint and remove it from the carpet before it dries. Once most of the paint has been removed and thrown away, blot the area with a clean cloth – make sure it’s white as the fibers of a colored cloth can stick to the carpet. “

For a more stubborn stain, Jones suggests adding turpentine to the cloth and continuing to blot.
“You should then use a mild detergent and warm water to clean the area. However, try to avoid scrubbing.”
Scrubbing paint on your carpet is usually not recommended, but Jones adds that you can use a toothbrush to lightly scrub the spilled material along with some carpet cleaner.
“This will keep your carpet from staining as long as you rub lightly,” she explains. “Using this method not only removes the paint, but you can also clean your carpet thoroughly with the toothbrush bristles.”
Baqir Khan, owner of Proactive Cleaners, says another hack to removing paint from carpets that works even on dried out stains is using a hand sanitizer.
“The alcohol in the disinfectant breaks down the color, which can then be removed with a microfiber cloth,” he explains.
Nail polish removers can also help remove color from fabrics.
“You need to make sure that the nail polish remover contains acetone, a solvent that is very good at removing both water and oil colors,” said Kyle Grant, founder of eco-friendly laundry company Oxwash.
“First, dilute the remover with water so that it is one part water and one part polish remover. Then pour the solution onto a paper towel and gently and continuously dab it on the stain until the paint has completely dissolved, and update the paper towel if necessary. “
If all else fails, Khan suggests contacting skilled carpet cleaners who are able to handle the stain with industrial grade cleaners.
