The Mesa County landfill receives at least 45 mattresses from residents every day, which adds up to thousands each year. While Grand Junction’s spring cleaning continues, there is one thing to keep in mind when getting rid of a bed.
“Remember that spring cleaning doesn’t require mattresses to be picked up from the roadside,” says Teresa Nees. “These mattresses are made so that they won’t break. They don’t collapse in our landfill either ;; They don’t squeeze very well, take up a lot of air space, and these wires can get entangled in our equipment. “
“You can now take your old mattress to the landfill because it is recyclable before you know it.” Cora Dickey informs.
Starting this summer, Mesa County will have a program to recycle old Denver mattresses. The landfill has a designated section and truck so that the public can dispose of the mattresses separately. There is already a list of benefits this feature brings to Mesa County.
“This will keep more rubbish out of our landfill, it will reduce the amount of rubbish we generate and we will be able to use this facility to collect rubbish for longer,” continues Teresa Nees.
More information on this mattress recycling program will be available as summer approaches. Landfill officials encourage people to dispose of properly by then.
