Man killed while trying to hold mattress in bed of truck
UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas – An East Texas man is dead after trying to hold a mattress on the back of a truck while the truck was driving down the street.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, soldiers responded Monday to a fatal crash on SH154, about 7 miles west of Gilmer.
The investigator’s preliminary report shows that the driver of a pickup truck identified as Easton Blackstone, 20, of Big Sandy, was driving east on SH 154 while Timothy Robert Field, 41, also of Big Sandy, was trying to close a mattress in the bed securing the truck.
DPS reports that when Field tried to keep the mattress on the bed, a gust of wind was caught which caused the Field to fall off the pickup truck.
Field was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to a Gilmer funeral home.
The crash is still being investigated.
