Lull vs. Casper Mattress Comparison

One in three adults is not getting enough sleep, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. While learning good nighttime habits is one way to improve the quality of your sleep, investing in a new mattress can also go a long way.

If you are looking for a new mattress in the market, you may have come across two popular mattress manufacturers: Casper and Lull.

Casper and Lull are both known for making quality mattresses with solid guarantees. Both companies are based in the United States and manufacture some of their bedding with American workers.

In this article, we’re going to dig deep into Casper and Lull and compare the two brands’ flagship mattresses.

Founded in 2014, Casper Sleep, Inc. is one of the original manufacturers of compressed bed mattresses.

Casper mattresses can be purchased online and in select retail stores. They are also sold several times a year.

There are three different mattresses in the Casper line, designed for a variety of sleeping positions, preferences and budgets. Most can be purchased as either foam or hybrid innerspring mattresses. The levels of support range from soft plush to medium strength.

Lull was founded in 2015. They make sleep products, including a mattress, pillows, and sheets.

Currently, you can only buy Lull mattresses online through the Lull website and Amazon. This sales model ties in with Lull’s ideology of reducing middlemen and eliminating markups for retail stores. They also often offer discounts.

Lull doesn’t like being held on by the firmness of her mattress. When asked, customer service agents will likely tell you that firmness is subjective and based on each sleeper’s sleep experience, body type, and needs. According to some user reviews, the Lull mattress offers soft to medium soft support.

Lull mattresses are made in the US and Asia from local and imported materials.

  • Adaptation. Lull only offers one mattress and one firmness level. Casper offers three different mattresses. The original mattress is available as a foam or a hybrid.
  • Softness. Critics say the Lull mattress is made entirely of foam and on the soft side, while the Casper Original Hybrid has innerspring support and firmer edges.
  • Availability. The Casper Original mattress is available on the Casper website and in stores so you can try it out for yourself. The Lull mattress is only available on the Lull website and on Amazon.

Kasper Original mattress

  • Height: 11 inches
  • Size options: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, king of California
  • Strength evaluation: Medium to medium firm
  • Guarantee: 100-night risk-free trial, 10 year limited warranty

The Casper Original was first offered exclusively as a full-foam mattress. It’s also available as an innerspring hybrid if you’re looking for more support.

The Casper Original has three support zones that place the mattress softly and comfortably around the shoulders (so that side sleepers do not wake up with a numb arm) and become firmer under the spine, waist, lower back and hips.

A 2015 study suggests that medium-firm mattresses are the best choice for spine alignment and comfortable sleep. However, it is important to note that memory foam mattresses are typically less firm than innerspring mattresses.

Memory foam is notoriously warm too, but the Casper Original’s top layer of foam is perforated to help dissipate heat and increase airflow. Reviewers generally speak favorably of its cooling capabilities.

For whom is that?

If you are looking for a soft to medium mattress, the full foam version of the Casper Original offers a soft yet supportive surface.

If you have an edge sleeper or prefer more bounce, the hybrid may be better suited as it has a solid, firm edge and a spring base that provides extra buoyancy.

Both versions of the Casper Original get high marks for motion isolation from couples.

The Lull mattress

  • Height: 10 inches
  • Size options: Twin, twin XL, full, queen, king, king of California
  • Strength evaluation: Soft to medium
  • Guarantee: 100-night risk-free trial, 10 year limited warranty

The Lull mattress (Lull’s only mattress) consists of three layers of foam. Lull customer service reps say it has a unitary firmness, although reviews suggest this mattress is on the soft side.

The top layer consists of gel-infused memory foam that is designed to dissipate heat and promote maximum airflow. An inner transition layer consists of a supportive elastic foam that supports and cushions the body without sinking.

The base layer is made of polyurethane foam for durability, support and to prevent sagging. This mattress does not require a box spring bed.

For whom is that?

Users say the Lull mattress has a hugging feel and is best for side sleepers who like a softer mattress. Some stomach sleepers say this mattress is too soft to give their hips adequate support.

A handful of reviews also mention movement isolation, saying the lull allows couples to easily change their position without disturbing their sleeping partner.

Both brands are bed-in-a-box mattresses. They are delivered over the counter in compressed packaging. This means that your mattress will take between 24 and 48 hours to reach its full size.

As with most compressed mattresses, stretching your mattress can produce an unconventional (but harmless) odor. It is therefore best to open a few windows or take the mattress outside. However, upon arrival with Lull and Casper mattresses, reviewers have reported little to no new mattress odor.

Casper offers a set up service for $ 149 provided you also purchase one of their select bed frames or a California king-size mattress. You’ll also cart away your old mattress if you live in one of their home delivery and furnishing market areas.

Lull does not offer a setup service.

The Casper Original mattress comes with a 100 night risk free trial and a 10 year limited warranty.

You can return or request an exchange for free during the 100 night sleep attempt. If you’d like to return your mattress, Casper will arrange a free pickup through a local charity who will take furniture donations and reimburse you in full.

In the event of an exchange, you will not be eligible for a 100-night risk-free trial or a refund if you choose to return the second mattress.

Lull offers a full money back guarantee if you want to return your mattress within the first 100 days. They also offer free pickup and removal.

Note that these terms only apply to mattresses purchased directly from Lull and not from a third party supplier, including Amazon. If you bought from Amazon, you will need to go through the return process.

Casper and Lull mattresses have CertiPUR-US certified foams that are made without ozone depleting materials or toxins – including flame retardants, lead, mercury, formaldehyde, phthalates, and heavy metals – as regulated by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Both Lull and Casper mattresses also meet federal government standards for flammability deterrents, as regulated in 16 CRF 1633 and 1632.

Casper Sleep, Inc. is recommended by the American Chiropractic Association for making high quality products.

Casper Sleep has an A + certified company rating from the Better Business Bureau. They have a rating of 4.3 (excellent) from Trustpilot.

In 2020, a class action lawsuit was filed against Casper Sleep, Inc. by some of their investors.

Lull has an A + certified company rating from the Better Business Bureau and a 3.6 (average) from Trustpilot. However, Lull’s Trustpilot review is misleading as the only customer review on the website gave Lull very good marks.

Casper and Lull mattress customers are generally satisfied with their products and customer service.

The Casper Original received fairly consistently high marks for reducing back pain and with no transfer of movement.

The Lull receives consistently good marks for eliminating or reducing all-over pain and is not restricted to any transfer of movement.

It has been reported that some people, especially the elderly, find it difficult to get both mattresses onto the bed.

Casper Sleep, Inc. and Lull are two American companies that manufacture foam-based bed-in-a-box mattresses. Your mattresses are delivered compressed and hands-free right to your door.

The Lull mattress consists exclusively of foam, while the Casper Original is available either as a full foam or as a hybrid mattress.

Key differences between the two brands include more customization options and accessibility with Casper than with Lull.

The Casper receives good marks from back, side, stomach and combination sleepers, especially in its hybrid version. The lull is preferred by back, side, and combination sleepers and may be more suitable for people who like a soft mattress.
