How will the Christmas holiday affect your trash pickup?

Only a handful of holidays affect garbage collection in almost all counties, including Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. Most counties don’t have garbage disposal on New Years Day either, but Duval County does. How the delay affects the pickup varies by state.

We have compiled a breakdown by county of how the garbage service affects the holidays.

In Duval County, garbage collection schedules are adjusted ONLY for Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day.

  • Christmas: schedules will only change if the holiday falls on a scheduled pickup day.
  • Visit the municipal waste collection schedule search page and fill in your address for the revised schedule.

Solid waste collection for New Year’s Day occurs on a normal schedule.

Trash, recycling, and garden waste will not be collected on Friday December 25th and the solid waste homes on Tillman Ridge and Stratton Road will be closed. They are also closed on New Years Day.

Two service providers collect solid waste in St. Johns County: Advanced Disposal and Republic Services.

The Advanced Disposal office will be closed on Friday, December 25th and will reopen for normal business hours on Monday, December 28th.

There is no service on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

Waste collection will be delayed for one day for the rest of the week after the holiday. For example, if a public holiday is Tuesday and your service day is Wednesday, you will be picked up on Thursday. The collection on Friday will be carried out on Saturday.

Waste Pro will be closed on Christmas Day, December 25th, and the Christmas Day trash and recycling service will be postponed to Saturday, December 26th.

New Year’s Day garbage and recycling services will be postponed to Saturday January 2nd.

“This applies to Waste Pro, which serves the majority of the residents of Flagler County,” said interim chief of staff Heidi Petito. “A small percentage of residents who live in private communities that are not looked after by Waste Pro may have different pickup schedules.”

Waste Pro reminds residents that laminated, shiny, metallic wrapping paper and glittering cards are not recyclable.

Christmas week: The service runs as usual from Monday to Wednesday. On December 24th, Thursday, Commercial and Grand Reserve trash will be disposed of as normal. There will be no church service on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25th. The next day of garbage collection in residential areas is the following Tuesday.

New Year’s Week: The service runs as usual from Monday to Wednesday. On December 31, Thursday, Commercial and Grand Reserve trash will be disposed of as normal. There will be no service on New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1st.

No change on public holidays.

New Year, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are county and Waste Pro holidays.

If your pickup day falls on one of these days, the next day is your pickup day.

All other pickups this week will fall behind one day. (Example: Monday through Tuesday, Tuesday through Wednesday, Wednesday through Thursday, Thursday through Friday, and Friday through Saturday for the rest of that week only.)

Columbia County manages the roadside collection contract through Waste Pro, which provides for weekly household and trash collections.

New Year, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas are county and Waste Pro holidays.

The garbage collection on these days will be made up again with the pickup one day later. Example: Friday, December 25th, Christmas Day, will be picked up on Saturday.

The Winfield Solid Waste Facility is closed on Christmas and New Years.

WCA collects rubbish in Lake Butler through Gainesville Hauling.

Gainesville Hauling observes the following holidays: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, New Years, Dr. Martin Luther King Day

The company says the routes will be delayed by a day for the rest of the week following a vacation.

For example, if a public holiday is Tuesday and your service day is Wednesday, you will be picked up on Thursday.

Only six public holidays affect the pick-up service:

No waste will be collected on these holidays and all scheduled collections will be delayed for one (business) day this week. The collection will be normalized again in the following week.

During these weeks, normal collections will be picked up on Friday on Saturday.

If your normal collection day falls on or after a public holiday, your garbage collection will be one day later for that week. This includes garden waste and recycling services.

During Christmas week, those who usually pick up on Friday will be picked up on Saturday, December 26th.
