The mother of a child found dead in a dumpster outside a Coney Island apartment building on Wednesday was booked on Thursday night on criminal charges, police reported.

Jahmika Small, 27, of West 28th Street, faces reckless endangerment and acts in ways that are harmful to a child. Further charges against her may be pending pending the results of the ongoing investigation.

Cops said Small allegedly turned to the police Wednesday afternoon claiming she had just given birth, but her child could not find her. This prompted the members of the 60th ward to react to the location and conduct a search of the building, which produced negative results.

Sources familiar with the investigation said Small was taken into custody Wednesday and was called for further questioning.

After the baby could not be found on West 28th Street, the NYPD Emergency Services Unit was called in to help with the acquisition.

The members of the unit then made the horrific discovery just before 5 p.m. and found the dead newborn baby of an unknown gender in a dumpster in front of a high-rise building at 2925 West 27th St. The location is about a block from Small who lives.

The cause of death was not disclosed by the police.
