Cleaning: How to clean your mattress for under £5 in just five steps
Many Britons don’t clean their mattresses regularly, which means bacteria and dust mites build up frequently. Washing your sheets and changing pillows is not enough to keep your bed free of nasty bugs. Mattress Online showed how you can safely clean your mattress in just five easy steps for less than £ 5.
3. Deodorize with baking soda
Many Brits have seen Mrs. Hinch’s baking powder mattress hack.
Mattress Online also recommends doing something similar by sprinkling a small amount of baking soda over the mattress.
The baking soda absorbs moisture and eliminates unpleasant odors.
Make sure the baking soda sits for an hour before you soak it up thoroughly.
5. Turn your mattress over
If your mattress is double-sided, you will need to clean the other side as well.
If you only have a single-sided mattress, just vacuum the other side of it to remove any build-up of dust.
Steve Adams, CEO of Mattress Online, said cleaning your sheets was “not enough”.
He added, “A clean mattress also helps minimize allergy symptoms from hay fever or asthma.
“It is recommended to clean the mattress at least once a month.
“It only takes 40 minutes of work and an hour of waiting to deodorize your mattress and let it smell fresh.
“Plus, the cleaning equipment required costs less than £ 5 so it’s an affordable solution to dust and allergy control so you can sleep better.”
