CKI Solutions Expands Into Mattress Removal and Recycling – Cruise Industry News

According to a press release, CKI Solutions has teamed up with an established mattress recycler under the brand name GreenSource Mattress Removal and Recycling.

The contracts ranged from MGM Resorts to Las Vegas Sands, Boyd Gaming Hotel & Casinos to Wynn Resorts and several ships for Holland America and American Cruise Lines.

: When it’s time to dispose of old mattresses and box spring beds, landfill is no longer the answer, “the company said in a statement.” The space a mattress takes up in the landfill is a significant problem. So much so that many landfills won’t even accept mattresses or box spring beds. Every year between 10 and 40 million mattresses and box spring beds are improperly disposed of. A typical mattress is a 23 cubic foot assembly made of steel, wood, cotton, and polyurethane foam. With such a wide range of materials to choose from, mattresses are usually difficult to recycle. “

According to the CKI, over 90 percent of a mattress and box spring can be recycled. A recycled mattress can save 65 pounds of toxic material from entering landfills. Recycling 10,000 mattresses is the equivalent of approximately 125 tons of steel, 20 tons of wood and 15 tons of foam. Recycling this material saves 239 tons of CO2, equivalent to planting 373 trees.

The service for the removal and recycling of GreenSource mattresses picks up the old mattresses and box spring beds from the customer and delivers them to a certified recycling facility in one of the 48 states.
