Company name: Hauling College HUNKS Junk & Moving

Address: 3 Turnberry Lane, Sandy Hook, CT 06482

Co-owner: Kylie Harrington / Josh Claffey, RN, BSN

Background: When Kylie Harrington was looking for a service-minded franchise with a philanthropic component, she and her fiancé Josh Claffey were thrilled to discover the opportunity to purchase an area in western Connecticut for college HUNKS Hauling Junk & Moving (HUNKS stands for Honest, Uniformed , Nice), Knowledgeable and service minded). The couple, who live in Washington Depot, met at Danbury Hospital, where Harrington was the patient access liaison and Claffey was a nurse. The couple saw the franchise as a recession-proof opportunity with long-term growth potential, while also providing Harrington with an opportunity to run a women-owned business.

Business focus: The company recently acquired a 26-foot moving truck and is ready to launch interstate moving services to complement existing garbage disposal, estate disposal, general labor and donation services. Owners are motivated to recycle and donate as much material as possible to ensure minimal flow to landfills. Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, and the Salvation Army are among the charities that receive weekly donations from the local college HUNKS franchise. Thereafter, these donations will be renovated and / or sold to support the mission of these recipient charities. Each completed job also generates a donation equal to two meals to the nonprofit Feeding Children Everywhere, and the company helps transport and deliver food. Franchise crews can even perform on-site chores like dismantling and / or relocating lawn sheds, swings, and hot tubs, or even pulling away accumulated brushes. The Sandy Hook franchise serves communities from Greater Danbury east to Waterbury and from Sherman south to Monroe.
