Best mattress in 2020 – Business Insider
The best foam mattress
The Tempur-Pedic Cloud mattress features contour foam that cradles sleepers of all body types and sleeping styles while providing excellent pressure relief and heat dissipation.
Benefits: Great heat dissipation, great movement isolation, 90 night trial, 10 inches thick, with 3 layers of supportive and soothing Tempur foam that is great for all sleep types
Disadvantage: A flat shipping fee will be deducted from your refund when you return your bed, a nondescript edge support and no delivery with white gloves
The Tempur-Pedic Cloud mattress does not come in a box but comes in a reusable canvas bag with handles that make the bed easy to carry and set up in your bedroom. You simply open the bag and pull on the other end of the bag to remove the mattress. Then cut through the plastic and roll it off. Like many foam mattresses, it had an odor that resolved after a few hours.
There are three layers of foam: a soft and responsive comfort top layer, a firmer support layer and finally a supportive and durable base. For a cooler sleep there is a stretch cover made of a polyester blend with moisture-transporting properties and excellent breathability. Overall, the mattress is four inches thick and weighs a little less than 58 pounds for Queen. It’s extremely light compared to all of the other mattresses I’ve tested – for context, the AirWeave is 10 inches of foam and weighs 71 pounds, and the 11-inch Leesa Hybrid, which mixes foam and feathers, weighs 115 pounds. This makes it much easier to set up or move the mattress.
When I slept on the mattress, I was impressed with how the patented foam adapted to my body and provided impressive pressure relief. I was comfortable on my stomach and side, and my wife, who has a back sleeper, enjoyed the feeling too. While testing the mattress, I was able to fall asleep within minutes after my head hit the pillow.
Full foam mattresses retain heat, but this wasn’t a problem with the cloud and I’ve never had problems with overheating. When I went to the bathroom at night, the warmth was lost in my absence and it was cool enough to go back to sleep right away.
The cloud passed my movement isolation tests, and when my wild terrier jumped on the bed in the morning, I didn’t notice until he started licking my face.
On a more subjective level, the cloud supported my back well. I suffer from back pain that flares up when I overexert myself with exercise and sleep on an unsupportive mattress. I engaged in excessive running and weight lifting while testing the mattress, but I had no back problems. If you find yourself in a similar situation, speak to your doctor first before considering changing your mattress.
There were only two negatives I found with the performance of the cloud. The first is the poor edge support. I noticed a noticeable drop when I sat on the edge of the bed and when I lay down directly on the edge of the bed I felt like I was falling off. Both are problems that would only occur in certain situations, so not deal breakers. However, couples may want a King or Cal King for more space.
Tempur-Pedic offers a 90 night trial, which is a must as sleeping on a mattress is the best way to see if it’s right for you. The delivery of white gloves and the removal of the mattress are possible at an additional cost. If you choose to return the cloud, the company will deduct shipping costs from your refund, which many other mattress manufacturers don’t.
